Couples Therapy in Bishops Lydeard and Online

Who couples therapy with us is for

Couples usually arrive not because one person is “the problem”, but because the relationship itself has become strained, confusing, or painful.

You may still care deeply about each other, or you may feel unsure whether the relationship can continue at all. Often, both are true at the same time.

Our work focuses on what is happening between you: the patterns, roles, defences, and moments where connection breaks down or becomes charged.

This may be for you if

  • You feel stuck in the same arguments that never truly resolve
  • You talk, but don’t feel heard or understood
  • One or both of you feels blamed, criticised, or shut down
  • Trust has been damaged, through betrayal, secrecy, or repeated disappointments.
  • You are questioning whether to stay together, separate, or try again differently

What Makes Our Couples Work Different

Most couples do not need more communication tips. They need a different kind of conversation, with someone who can slow the pattern down, name what is happening, and help you risk honesty without turning on each other.

Relational and Present

We don’t sit back and interpret you from a distance. Therapy is a relationship, and we use what happens between us as part of the work. If something feels difficult, charged, or unclear, we bring it into the room.

Direct, not Neutral

We are honest and engaged. We don’t hide behind silence or professional detachment. If something isn’t working, we say so and explore why together.

Depth Without Jargon

We care about meaning, identity, love, fear, shame, grief, and purpose. We don’t reduce you to diagnoses or techniques, and we don’t bury the work under theory.

Willing to Slow Things Down

We are more likely to slow you down than speed you up. Change often comes from staying with what you usually rush past or avoid.

What sessions are like

We slow the cycle down

We identify the loop you get pulled into, and map what each of you does when you feel threatened or alone

We work with emotion and meaning

Not just what happened, but what it meant, what it touched, and what you protect.

We build repair

How to come back after rupture, how to speak so you can be received, how to listen without collapsing or counterattacking.

You do not need perfect words. You do need willingness to be honest and to stay in the room when it gets uncomfortable

Not sure this is what you need? If you are considering a lower-cost option, we also run group therapy. See current groups.

Choose who you work with

Couples therapy is offered by both of us. Some people feel a clear pull toward one person. Others want the first available slot. Either way, the process starts with a free 20-minute consultation.

Jacqui Vickery

Jacqui is particularly drawn to couples work and the lived reality of relationship. She focuses on emotional patterns, attachment, repair, and the places couples lose and find each other again.

David Edwards

David focuses primarily on individual therapy, working with identity, meaning, stuckness, and the stories people live inside. His style is reflective, direct, and relational.
